What Irony, What Despair, April 7, 2023

When you were with us, I lived too far away to enjoy your company daily, but I counted down the days until I came home to you. Now you are gone, and you are everywhere, yet nowhere. I see you in the mountains, the wildlife, and the moon that sets behind them. I hear your voice in every snowflake, raindrop, leaf, and sun ray. I still count down the days until I come home to you, but it has a new meaning. What irony death causes.

When you were with us, our family was intact, for you were the glue, which is apparent in your absence. Healing is long overdue, and I wonder if things will ever be what they once were, but my greatest fear is that they were never what I remember them to be. What despair death causes.
