The Company We Keep, March 25, 2023

If I surround myself with wise counsel, I will be wise because whoever walks with the wise will become wise. The likewise is also true. Misery loves company and pursues one in their weakness; therefore, if I keep fools for companions, I will suffer as my company suffers.

In my adult years, I have become more mindful of my company. Similarly, I am more conscious of being good company. As of late, growing within me is the desire to lead by example in language, actions, love, faith, and purity. However, I need help with my quest because my need for the gratification of the flesh overshadows my efforts.

My truth terrifies me, but the search for good counsel terrifies me more, for there is not one of us that is righteous, no, not one.

Who, then, shall I keep as good company?

How will I know them?

And when will I know I am ready to be good company to others?

With hypocrisy alive and well, I believe the answers lie in God's word. To know His word is to recognize another's fruit by their words and actions that reveal what is inside their hearts.
