Invisibility, April 4, 2023

Updated: Nov 9

People feel invisible and unimportant as if they don't matter. The feeling becomes magnified when told their opinions are better behind sealed lips and ignore their own voice. It becomes unbearable when they become people pleasers because even though it appears to be the way to gain attention, the expectations make one disappear altogether.

Feeling invisible can lead one to search for validation in idols, something other than God that brings meaning to their life and causes them to feel known. (Exodus 20:3) Feeling invisible makes us vulnerable, and it is best practice when we feel this way to fix our eyes on not what can be seen but what is unseen, for what is seen is temporary, and what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:17-18)

Let us remember our neighbors, for faith without action is dead. Once you begin studying God's word and believing in the unseen, you start seeing yourself and others as He sees you. (Mark 12:31) By helping others with a pure motive, we are extending a branch (Romans 11:17) to those often overlooked and helping them feel visible. But do not be guilty of lending a hand if your only purpose is to boast and gain recognition from the masses. (Matthew 6:1) There is no reward in heaven for those who do.

Though it is common in our flesh to want recognition, God is the only one who sees us as we truly are. To Him, we are not invisible even if we feel invisible. (Psalm 139:13-16) Knowing He knew us from when we were in our mother's womb should lend great relief that we are important, if only to Him.

To gain a relationship with God, study His word and read for yourself when Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) Before long you will no longer feel the cloak of invisibility. But I caution you, don't throw out the cape. Now that you are more robust and understand God's love, you will want to pray to your Father privately, for your time alone with the Father is recognized and rewarded. (Mathew 6:6-7)
