Hubris into Humility, April 26, 2023
Standing atop his bail bed pickup and gazing at the land that stretched beyond the horizon, the old cowboy smiled. He tilted his head and removed his hat to wipe the sweat from his brow. He had dreamed that one day his hard work would pay off with a healthy herd and land plentiful with feed. The ranch was his canvas, and he was the artist with endless possibilities of what was next.
Years later, atop the same bail bed pickup now rusting away, the old cowboy humbly fell to his knees and pleaded for God's mercy to bless the land with feed for the starving cattle. There, he recognized his hubris was the reason for his failure, and he cried, begging for forgiveness and giving God the much-deserving praise for the land he owned that stretched beyond the horizon and the herd of cattle he was so close to losing.
