Aware of the Nostalgia, April 15, 2023

Walking inside the one-room schoolhouse, I am acutely aware of the nostalgia for the days I spent within these four walls. This school was once my institution of promise, and now it sits rotting just as I am. The comparison conjures a chuckle deep in my throat, but I keep the thought to myself. The mention of death causes my family a discomfort I don't share. I accept I am like this old school, falling apart, and soon I too will be a pile of what I once was.
