A Walk Down Memory Lane - Jan 2, 2023
I am visited today by the sweet aroma of pinesol and the musty smell of cigars, both of which take me down memory lane. To this day, these scents offer me a sense of security. I lean back and allow reflections on family traditions and vacations to fill my heart with satisfaction and eyes with tears. The most crucial part of these memories is that I felt loved as a child. I pray as a mother that when my children were small, I gave them cherished memories and feelings of being adored.
Parenting is not for the weak of the heart. There is no instruction manual, and often when we are rearing our children, we get caught up in a fantasy that they will be what we could not be. Yet, in the end, they become their own selves, and as a parent, we can only hope they choose their best self.
My children are grown now. Each is out on their own, and I couldn't be prouder of them. They faced trials in their short lives but continued to forge forward, making good choices and achieving their potential. In the end, this is what a parent wants. A happy life filled with accomplishments of a life well lived. This may reflect prayers answered and a mother giving her best self.
Indeed, there is nothing like a walk down memory lane to erupt emotions within me. I am blessed.
